Biography
Psychoyogi's music is a diverse mixture of instrumental colours, melodies, and words. The songs present social and political critique alongside personal moments and moods. Their sound is unparalleled and cannot be categorised. In the words of Mike O'Toole (Beat Magazine), "It is a rejection of docile adherence to a single musical style." In recent months, Psychoyogi has given several performances in the UK, including the Rhythms of the World festival, and have recorded their third album, Poison Candy. the band has performed at the Mean Fiddler, supported Tiger Lilies, and the 12 Bar Club, opening for Tony Remy. Psychoyogi were invited to Germany in 2004 and made several appearances including the Traveufer Festival and the Summer Jazz Festival.
The influences are varied: Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa, Bach, King Crimson, Bartok, Primus, Tool, Mr Bungle, Radiohead, XTC, The Beatles, and Stravinsky.
The line-up includes Chris Ramsing (vocals and guitar), Ben Craft (violin, melodica and vocals), Tim Shireman (bass), Rik Ervine (drums), Tim Smart (trombone), Toby Nowell (tumpet and euphonium).
